SEARCH FOR MINERALS AND SEMI-PRECIOUS STONES

The search for rare minerals is an interesting adventure, for which the Eastern Rhodopes are the best place in Bulgaria.

The tour is a full day and can be held in the areas around the town of Madzharovo and the Studen Kladenets dam. We know the mineral deposits and we know the geology of the area. This adventure is suitable for both small and large groups. Searching for semi-precious stones is done throughout the year, but the best time is late March and early April, after the winter months.

During our tour, we see the largest collapses in Bulgaria and the abrasive wells of the Arda River. In the prismatic weathering of the rocks around the Studen Kladenets dam, we find bizarre forms of chalcedony and all sorts of agates. In the river bed of Arda we find rock crystal, green and red jasper, opal, petrified wood, opalized coral, oysters and other fossils. In the volcano of the town of Madjarovo, there are some of the best deposits of stringy amethyst, which we can also find "processed" in the meanders of Arda.

You can very successfully combine the search for rare minerals with feeding the vultures, observing vultures, amphibians and reptiles, kayaking on the Arda River and the Studen Kladenets Dam, as well as visiting historical places.
